Olaf Nicolai a récemment présenté des œuvres fonctionnant comme des espaces sonores performés, gravitant de la voix intérieure à l'arène politique. Des projets tels que (Innere Stimme) ou Escalier du Chant – dont la phonétique rend hommage au maître de l'art conceptuel Marcel Duchamp – utilisent la voix pour articuler des découpages entre fond et forme, temps et espace, physicalité et oralité. Pour l'artiste, le son est un producteur de sens échappant aux procédures linguistiques habituelles. Le travail de mixage et de permutation continue de médiums, références, contextes et disciplines génère un large éventail d'interprétations, les œuvres apparaissant dès lors comme des agrégations temporaires

Olaf Nicolai recently showed works functioning like performed acoustic spaces, gravitating from the inner voice to the political arena. Projects such as (Innere Stimme) and Escalier du Chant – whose phonetics pay tribute to the master of conceptual art, Marcel Duchamp – use the voice to articulate cuts between style and content, time and space, physicality and orality. For the artist, sound is a producer of meanings dodging usual linguistic procedures. The work of mixing and continual permutation of media, references, contexts and disciplines gives rise to a broad range of interpretations, with the works henceforth appearing like temporary agglomerations.
